Summary

José María B Oliver, a a Spanish Jesuit priest, was born on July 15, 1877 in Vinaroz, Castellón de la Plana. He studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and taught Sacred Scripture at the Faculty of Theology of the Máximo College in Barcelona from 1912 to 1953. In 1940, he co-founded AFEBE (Association for the Promotion of Biblical Studies in Spain) and the Sociedad Mariológica Española. He was appointed by Pope Pius XII as a member of the scientific commission preparing the dogmatic definition of Mary’s Assumption and as an advisor to the Pontifical Biblical Commission in 1941. Throughout his exemplary religious life, he was canonized as Saint Cugat del Vallès by Pope Paul VI on July 25, 1978. His extensive studies on Mary’s Mediatrix role and Contraedictrix status earned him the title of “Father of Spanish Mariologists.”
