Summary
In a notable conversation recorded in 1 Kings, King Solomon of Israel sought wisdom from God to lead his people effectively. One night, while sleeping at Gibeon’s sanctuary and offering sacrifices, Solomon fell into a deep sleep where he heard the voice of the Lord. The Lord encouraged Solomon to ask for anything he desired. In response, Solomon humbly requested wisdom to govern well among his vast kingdom rather than seeking longevity or wealth. Moved by Solomon’s humility and sincerity, God granted him a wise and discerning heart. This episode is referenced in today’s First Reading during the Catholic Church service. In Mark 6:30-34 of the Gospel, Jesus sent out twelve disciples to preach. On their return journey, they reported having performed many miracles, casting demons out of people and healing them by the power of Jesus’ name. This event is part of today’s Gospel lesson during Mass in the Catholic Church.
