Catholic Australians Remain Faithful Despite Irregular Attendance: Study Finds
A recent study commissioned by Australia’s Catholic bishops reveals that many Catholics who rarely attend Sunday Mass still hold strong beliefs and practices. The report, ‘Absent from the Table,’ surveyed 1,963 adult Catholics across seven states and found that 65% consider faith very important in their lives, with 44% sending children to Catholic schools. However, irregular attendance has declined significantly, with only 8.2% attending Mass weekly by 2021. The study identifies 14 reasons for this trend, including personal circumstances and dissatisfaction with Church life, suggesting the need for more community engagement and meaningful liturgy.
