Archbishop Alexander Sample of Portland, Oregon, has proposed an ambitious plan for spiritual renewal in his archdiocese, calling on all Catholics to embrace a ‘Christ-centered and kerygmatic’ mission. Inspired by Pope Leo XIV’s emphasis on mission over maintenance, Sample’s pastoral letter, ‘Go Therefore and Make Disciples,’ encourages practical steps for priests, Catholic schools, and lay faithful. The letter focuses on priestly holiness, daily Mass, and fostering a sense of fraternity among clergy. Additionally, it aims to reform Catholic schools to better align with the mission of evangelization, following previous initiatives to eliminate gender ideology and promote traditional liturgical practices.
